Introduction to PLAY SOCCER Malawi
MUCH MORE THAN OF PLAYING FOOTBALL - THE PROJECT TEACHES HEALTH, PHYSICAL SOCIAL AS WELL AS FOOTBALL SKILLS.

Malawi is a poor country: 13 million people with an economy half the size of that of Falkirk, the town of Scotland.

VOLUNTEER LEADING EXCERCISES AT CHINGUMULA
Near the city of Blantyre in Malawi, there is a township called Ndirande. In an area of the township known as Malabada a project called “PLAY SOCCER Malawi", in association with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), attracts huge numbers of children (boys and girls) twice a week. PLAY SOCCER Malawi operates on four sites in the Blantyre area.
In July 2006, the project in Malabada had 1,700 children registered and only had seven strips.

THE SEVEN STRIPS - AND A VOLUNTEER
We collected about 90 full kits, mostly from Hutchison Vale and Glasgow Celtic, and had them shipped in Malawi before our visit in 2007. At the same time, Edinburgh Council Sports and Leisure were organized a collection of related goods through their leisure centres.
By July 2009, the Friends of PLAY SOCCER Malawi have collected more than 1,500 football shirts, a similar number of shorts and pairs of socks and other football-related items.

MALAWIAN GIRLS LOVE FOOTBALL TOO
PLAY SOCCER Malawi is part of the growing network of PLAY SOCCER programmes that includes Cameroon, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Zambia as well as Malawi. There is no such thing as charitable status in Malawi, however PLAY SOCCER Malawi is registered with the Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi, Registration Number C281/2005.
Friends of PLAY SOCCER Malawi is a group of Football fans in Scotland who are dedicated to helping this great Malawian initiative in any way we can.
Overheads Expenses
One thing that people are rightly concerned about is how much of their donated money goes to the people they want to help. You can be reassured if you choose to donate to the Friends of PLAY SOCCER Malawi. As it is run on a purely voluntary basis, 100% of the money donated goes to Malawi to increase the number of children going to the project.

Don't take our word for it, these Authorities write:
“Football unites children all over the world. Whenever you find children, you will also most likely find football. Children have the right to play and football can help rescue this part of their childhood.” UNICEF UK Catalogue 2007
"Today, it is widely accepted that sport - and especially football - is far more than a luxury or a form of entertainment. Access to and participation in sport is a human right and essential for individuals of all ages to lead healthy and fulfilling lives." The official FIFA website
PLAY SOCCER Malawi is part of PLAY SOCCER, a not for profit organization with branches in South Africa, Cameroon, Zambia, Senegal, Ghana as well as Malawi. it received basic funding for its activities from FIFA though the Football for Hope Movement. However, that funding is being reduced.
