ABOUT US

Friends of PLAY SOCCER Malawi is a Scottish-based group dedicated to helping this great Malawian initiative in any way we can.

Where children live with poverty or disease, a game of football may be their only escape for a short time.  The Friends of PLAY SOCCER Malawi's objective is simple: for all children of the Township areas, THE RIGHT TO PLAY.

The committee comprises of Bob (Chairman), Tom (Vice-Chairman), Doug (Secretary), and Duncan (Treasurer).

Financial Details of Friends of PLAY SOCCER Malawi

The Friends of PLAY SOCCER Malawi do not have any overhead charges as we do it all on a voluntary basis, therefore all monies received go to help the work of PLAY SOCCER Malawi. In 2007, the Management in Malawi needed two laptop computers to assist them with regular reporting and with record-keeping. The Friends of PLAY SOCCER Malawi bought two Dell laptop and we took them to Malawi in July 2007.

Friends of PLAY SOCCER Malawi believed that only internal sustainable development will help Malawi out of poverty, and indeed, we do all we can in this regard.  However, can you remember running out on the football pitch for the first time wearing a team strip? It didn’t matter that the strip was probably old and faded – it was a team strip – and you were playing.

The Friends of PLAY SOCCER Malawi is a Registered Charity, charity number is SCO39953.

THIS YOUNG GIRL IS OBVIOUSLY ENJOYING HERSELF

That’s what we want for these children in Ndirande – that feeling. Now! Not in 5 or 10 years time when the economy picks up, after another generation of children lose out.

Bob’s involvement with Malawi started when Mary’s school was initiating a link with Thyolo Secondary School, about 50 km south of Blantyre.

Our visit in Malawi in 2006 was entirely self-financed as was Bob's return trip in July 2007.

Unfortunately Bob’s plans to go back to Malawi in 2009 don’t look feasible now. However, when Mary is back with a school party, they plan to visit the PLAY SOCCER Malawi site.
